Here are some last glimpses of Wisconsin.
A seed company.
Where we reprovisioned.
A fireworks emporium.
A bit of historic downtown Prairie du Chien.
The Mississippi, east channel.
The Iowa riverbank, as seen from the bridge over the west channel (still in Wisconsin).
Our first mile in Iowa was uphill, to get to the top of the bluffs. The road was smooth, but the shoulders were generally not rideable, or had only a narrow area between rumble strips and gravel. Still, traffic was light, the weather was cool, so even riding gingerly due to the cracked rear wheel, we made decent time.
I REACHED POSTVILLE!
A few hours later, while we were riding to a church service at the edge of town, the BikeE’s rear wheel disintegrated. That’s twisted metal you see below, not rubber tire.
The wheel must be replaced. Lack of time means replacement must wait until we return to NYC. Thus ends the cycling portion of the Ride, 1216 miles from NYC.
But don’t go away! There’s lots to tell you about what we saw and heard today in Postville. Tomorrow, Jefffrey is speaking to several classes at the local public school. So we have another few days of things to share.
Come back tomorrow to share the continuing adventure!
